What Happened to Xavage? The Closed Park, and Where to Go Instead
Reviewed for accuracy on Nov 3, 2026

Status, checked November 3, 2026: Xavage has been closed since November 12, 2024. Press reports at the time called the closure temporary, for a redesign. As of November 3, 2026, no reopening had been announced on xcaret.com or in Grupo Xcaret's newsroom, xcaret.com no longer sells Xavage tickets, and its old Xavage pages now redirect to Xplor pages. Xavage is not part of All-Fun Inclusive at the Hotel Xcaret hotels.
What happened to Xavage
Xavage was Grupo Xcaret's water-and-adventure park near Puerto Morelos, between Cancún and Playa del Carmen. On November 12, 2024 it closed. Riviera Maya News reported the closure the next day as a temporary suspension so the park could be redesigned.
Two years on, the signs on Grupo Xcaret's own sites point to a long closure rather than a short break:
- No tickets. xcaret.com's old Xavage ticket and about pages now redirect to Xplor's (checked November 3, 2026).
- No reopening news. Grupo Xcaret's newsroom had no Xavage announcement among its recent releases on November 3, 2026.
- Not in the hotel package. The All-Fun Inclusive page on hotelxcaret.com lists Xcaret, Xel-Há, Xplor, Xplor Fuego, Xoxi, Xenses and Xenotes (checked November 3, 2026). Third-party pages that list Xavage as included were written before it closed.
If that changes, this page will say so with the date.
Where to go instead
As of November 2026, Grupo Xcaret sells six parks (Xcaret, Xel-Há, Xplor, Xplor Fuego, Xenses and Xoxi) and a set of tours. If Xavage was on your list for the adrenaline and the water, these are the closest substitutes:
- Xplor for zip-lines, rafts, amphibious vehicles and an underground river swim. It's next to Xcaret park, minimum age 5, and closed-toe shoes are required.
- Xplor Fuego, the night version, with seven zip-lines, vehicles and a river swim. See the Xplor Fuego review.
- Xenotes for rappelling, zip-lines and kayaking at four cenotes, minimum age 6. The Xenotes vs Xcaret comparison covers it.
- ATV Xperience, Grupo Xcaret's newer jungle ATV tour from Cancún or Playa del Carmen, for ages 12 and up.
Hours and closed days change; check xcaret.com's calendar for your dates.
What Xavage was like
Xavage was Grupo Xcaret's adrenaline park, built around a man-made whitewater river. Reporting the closure on November 13, 2024, Riviera Maya News listed whitewater rafting, rock crawling in specially designed vehicles, high-speed jet boat rides, horizontal zip-lining and an extensive ropes course. Other descriptions of the park fill in the detail:
- Rafting over more than 600 m of what rivieramaya.mx calls the only rapids on the Riviera
- Kayaks on about a kilometer of the river
- A jet boat that reached 85 km/h
- Monster trucks: rock-crawling vehicles on an obstacle circuit
- A zip-line 400 m long and 20 m off the ground
- A high ropes course on four levels, from 8 to 36 m up (Oasis Hoteles, 2021)
- A kids' water area, Xorros y Cachorros, with slides, for ages 5 to 11 (Oasis Hoteles, 2021)
Because the park sat near Puerto Morelos, it was closer to Cancún airport than to the Hotel Xcaret hotels, so it was a long transfer from the southern Riviera Maya.
How it fit the cluster
When both were open, Xplor was the pick for caves and jungle and Xavage for whitewater and vehicles. With Xavage closed, Xplor is the pick for zip-lines and adventure, Xel-Há is the calm snorkel day (Xel-Há vs Xcaret), and Xenses is the strange sensory half-day (Xenses review).
For the rest of the Xcaret cluster, the destination hub and the Ultimate Xcaret guide have the full breakdown. If you're trying to figure out which mix of parks is right for your week, the decision tree guide walks through it scenario by scenario.
