México Destination Club Membership Types: What's Public and What Isn't

TL;DR: México Destination Club (Grupo Xcaret's vacation and loyalty club) publishes no tier names and no price list. What it does say publicly: benefits and referral rewards vary by membership type, it "does not impose mandatory maintenance fees or limit the number of weeks available for vacation each year," and only members can invite friends and family at a preferential rate. Everything else, from tier names to prices, comes from owner reports or the sales presentation. Get your membership type's benefits in writing before you sign.
When you sit down with a club rep, the conversation quickly becomes "which membership?" And the honest truth is that most of what you'll hear in that room isn't published anywhere you can check afterward. I'm two years in, so let me separate what the club states publicly from what it doesn't.
A caveat first: I'm one member with one membership type, and I'm not going to present my contract as typical. Treat everything below as what I could verify in 2026, and confirm the details of any membership you're offered directly with the club, in writing.
What the club publishes
Here's everything I could find on the club's own site about how memberships differ:
- Membership types exist. The Xhare Rewards referral terms say rewards correspond "to your membership type." That's the clearest public sign that not every membership is the same.
- No mandatory maintenance fees. The club states it "does not impose mandatory maintenance fees or limit the number of weeks available for vacation each year."
- Friends-and-family rates are member-only. From the home page: "Only our distinguished Members can invite family or friends to enjoy a stay at Hotels by Grupo Xcaret at a preferential rate."
That's it. The club doesn't publish tier names, prices, or a side-by-side of what each type includes.
What's public and what isn't, at a glance
| Question | Public? | What's known |
|---|---|---|
| Tier names | No | Owners on forums mention Coral, Pearl and Platinum (not official) |
| Price | No | Forum-reported ~$5,000 to $11,000+, usually financed (unverified) |
| Annual fees | Partly | The club states no mandatory maintenance fees; some owners report an annual membership fee of ~$140–$200 (unverified) |
| Referral rewards | Yes | 1 or 2 nights per qualifying presentation, 3 or 4 if the friend buys, by membership type |
| Referral limits | No | Set in the members-only portal |
| Booking window by type | No | Not published |
I'm deliberately not filling in the "No" rows with guesses. The sales presentation will fill them in for you; the point of this table is to show which answers you can check later and which ones need to be in your contract.
Lever 1: what each membership includes
The pitch will describe a ladder: pay more, get more. The club doesn't publish that ladder, so you can't compare what you're offered against a public list. Two practical rules:
- Get the benefits of your specific membership type in writing. Not a brochure — the contract or an attachment to it.
- Price the benefits against your dates. Peak weeks still cost more at the member rate, because the member rate is a discount off a higher public rate. If your only travel window is a holiday, run the numbers on holiday rates, not the brochure's example.
This is why the right membership is a function of when and how you travel, not just how often. The full cost picture, including what owners report paying, is in the 2026 cost breakdown.
Lever 2: priority booking window
This is the most underrated member benefit. Members book ahead of the public — in my experience up to roughly 11–12 months out. The club doesn't publish whether that window differs by membership type, so ask.
Why it matters: peak inventory sells out long before the public window opens. Christmas-week junior suites at Hotel Xcaret México are essentially gone by late summer. As a member I've locked Christmas in January. Spring-break rooms I booked 11 months ahead, and the public window opened to find them nearly sold out.
Tip: If you only ever travel peak weeks, the priority booking window can matter more than the rate discount. Getting the room at all is the win; any peak-week member rate is the bonus. Ask how far ahead your membership type can book before you compare anything else.
If your travel is flexible and shoulder-season, the window matters less — there's plenty of inventory in May and late November.
Lever 3: referrals
Here's the lever that quietly decides whether the whole membership pays off for a lot of members, and it's the one area where the club publishes real detail. Under the Xhare Rewards terms:
- When a friend you refer "meets the profile established by this program and attends [the] complete presentation" (a membership sales presentation), you earn 1 or 2 nights for 2 adults at Hotel Xcaret México or Hotel Xcaret Arte, depending on membership type.
- If the friend becomes a member, you earn 3 or 4 nights, and that reward "does not apply to all memberships."
- The referred friend gets, once, a preferential rate, priority check-in and X Lounge access.
Separately, members can invite friends and family to stay at a preferential rate. The club sets limits and eligibility rules for that in its members-only portal; it doesn't publish a public cap.
Why it's the hinge: in my own member math, the difference between "marginal" and "clearly worth it" is whether you use referrals. If you have a big extended family or a friend group that travels, ask which referral rewards the membership type you're offered earns. I dig into how that sharing works in sharing member rates with friends.
Which membership fits which traveler
The occasional couple. One or two flexible shoulder-season trips a year, no real plan to refer others. Don't pay for benefits you won't use. Honestly, this traveler should also seriously weigh whether to buy at all — see the break-even analysis.
The regular family. Two-plus trips a year, occasional peak weeks, a handful of referrals. This is the sweet spot for most members who genuinely use the program. Ask specifically about the booking window and the referral rewards for the membership type you're offered.
The superfan / connector. Three-plus trips a year, multiple premium weeks, a large family or friend network you'll refer heavily. Confirm in writing which Xhare rewards your membership type earns — 1 or 2 nights per qualifying presentation, and whether the 3- or 4-night purchase reward applies at all. This is also where I'd most seriously compare brand-direct against resale.
Resale and membership types
One practical note: memberships trade on a resale market, typically below brand-direct. The trade-off is that the club doesn't publish which benefits survive a transfer, so a resale membership may not carry the same referral rewards or brand-direct extras. Before you buy resale, ask the club in writing what transfers. The mechanics of how this differs from a deeded product are in Destination Club vs timeshare.
How to right-size your membership in practice
If you're stuck between two offers, this is the exercise I'd run before signing:
- Write down last year's actual travel — every trip, not the aspirational version. Apply it to Hotel Xcaret: which weeks, which room categories, how many nights.
- Price that itinerary at the member rate. Ask the rep to quote your real dates and room categories at the member rate, then compare them with the public rate for the same nights.
- Count realistic referrals. Be honest: how many friends or family would actually book a Hotel Xcaret stay through you, or sit through the club's sales presentation, in a year? Zero is a valid answer, and it pushes you toward a smaller commitment.
- Get every benefit and fee in writing, then stop. If a benefit isn't in the contract, assume you don't have it.
Overbuying is the most expensive membership mistake: you've paid up front, often financed, for benefits you never touch. Underbuying is the cheaper error — you can occasionally book a trip at public rates and still come out ahead of a membership you've outgrown your need for.
The one-line rule
Buy the membership that matches your honest travel frequency and referral usage, with every benefit in writing — no more. The most common membership mistake I see is buying for the trips you imagine taking rather than the ones you'll actually take. Right-size it, and the program can be a genuinely good deal for a frequent Hotel Xcaret traveler.
Before you commit to anything, test the rate itself. You can book a single stay at the member rate through my referral, no commitment, via the member-rate request page. And for the broader context on properties and seasons, the Hotel Xcaret destination hub is the place to start.
Disclosure: I'm a México Destination Club member. Member-rate stays usually require attending the club's sales presentation, which can run several hours. If I refer you and you attend, the club gives me complimentary hotel nights, plus more if you buy. You pay nothing extra and don't have to buy. Not sure which membership — or whether to join at all? Request a member-rate quote. I'll send the member rate for your dates, the public-rate comparison, and an honest read on whether membership makes sense for you. The club sets limits and eligibility rules in its members-only portal; I'll confirm what's available for your dates.
